Update

Excalibur Leadership is currently on hold; we are not accepting new applications at this time.

Karra Overholt // Director

Karra is the Director of Youth at Church on the Rock and Director of Excalibur Leadership Training. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University, double majoring in Adolescent Ministries and Leadership and is a recent graduate of Arrow Leadership. Having spoken at youth retreats, camps and training seminars across Ontario, Karra has a passion for youth: guiding them to find their identity in Christ, training them to be leaders and helping them fall in love with the local church. She has travelled with her father, Dave Overholt, and has been immersed in youth ministry from a very young age, which fuelled her love for this next generation.

Shannon Freeman // Program Coordinator

As the Excalibur Leadership Coordinator, Shannon has a passion for keeping track of the details and for making things happen! In addition to her work with Excalibur, she has been blessed with opportunities to provide administrative support for the last 12+ years at other amazing organizations including Arrow Leadership and Bible League Canada. When she’s not writing e-mails or tracking the budget, Shannon loves to spend time adventuring outside with her husband, Rich, and their two princesses, Zoe & Adeline.

Dave Overholt // Advisor & Instructor

Rev. Dr. David Overholt is the founding pastor of Church on the Rock in Hamilton, ON which grew out of a cooperative youth ministry of six churches. Dave has over 40 years of ministry experience and heads up the Youth and Family department at Tyndale Seminary. Dave has authored many books including the Canadian best selling, Soul Searching the Millennial Generation and Transfusing Life. Dave is also Church Renewal mentor and regularly speaks across Canada and beyond. Dave has given his life to raise up next generation leaders and believes this is the most significant ministry of our day!

Meet the Workshop Instructors

Donavan Friesen

Pastor Donavan loves adventure! It doesn’t matter what it is. This sense of adventure transfers into the greatest adventure of his life – walking this adventure WITH God! While pastoring in a local high school – Donavan observed a revival of prayer among the youth – they learned to hear God and actually obey Him – they came alive and were transforming before his eyes. This solidified the focus of his ministry life. Helping people to fall madly in love with Jesus – allowing God to transform them on the inside – so that the light of Jesus shines everywhere they go.

Donavan was called to plant a church and raise up church planters more than 15 years ago. And three years ago God confirmed that it was time to start this new adventure. Currently Donavan pastors Anchor Point Church in Winnipeg. In a messy and deeply relational way – He is walking with his congregation to become mature, spirit lead, lovers of God – that will be sent all over the earth – loving God and loving their neighbors.

Danny McKay

Danny’s message inspires people to be passionate about Christ and the call to build His kingdom. Taking the gospel to some of the most unreached parts of the world is at the heart of his work. Whether unsaved, seeking, or believers looking for the next level, he has something for them all. Combining humor and depth, Danny’s ability to bring Scripture to life moves listeners to a deeper love for God and a commitment to reach the world around them.

As a wild youth, Danny was radically saved when he met Christ at 17. While on the run in a stolen car, he stumbled upon a book that introduced him to the Savior. He has never been the same. Now having been called to plant churches around the world with ‘I Am Second’, Danny is a sought after speaker and speaks to all ages and inspires them to get involved in building God’s kingdom. Danny lives in Manitoba and attends New Life Church with Naomi his wife of 19 years and their two children Ethan (16) and Samara (14).
