What dates does Excalibur run?

Excalibur is an 8-month program that runs from September to April. For the Excalibur class starting in September of 2020, the weekend experiences will be held on: September 25-27, 2020; November 27-29, 2020; and April 17-19, 2021. Typically, these weekends will require that students miss a day of school on the Friday. If you have any further questions please contact us directly.

What if I can’t make it to all three weekends?

Participation in each of the three weekend experiences is mandatory for students to be able to complete the program. If you are unable to attend one or more of the scheduled weekends this year, it may be best to consider applying for next year instead.

What is the application process like?

You will need to complete your online application form and spiritual reference forms. Once your application and references are submitted, they will be reviewed and accepted students will be sent payment instructions and next steps.

What safety and risk management procedures are in place?

We go to great lengths to ensure student safety during Excalibur. During each weekend experience we have a ratio of one adult to three students. During the canoe trip, qualified and experienced Coldwater Canada Trippers, who have safety and first aid training, will be helping to lead the trip. All students and leaders will be taught risk management protocols to ensure safety and that all participants are well cared for.

I have no experience with canoe tripping, is that a problem?

Absolutely not! Excalibur is geared in part to encourage you out of your comfort zone in many different ways. Though the canoe trip may stretch you, the trip leaders will have extensive tripping experience and will instruct and support you in the ways needed to be successful. We also want to be a community or support and encouragement as we take steps of faith in all sorts of ways.

Are you able to accommodate allergies and specialty diets?

There is a place on the application form where you can indicate any allergies or dietary restrictions. Please be thorough detailing both the restrictions and their severity. We will work with you and our partner organizations to ensure that these restrictions are taken into consideration. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. If you have any concern please contact us directly.

Why the name Excalibur?

We believe that all young people poses the ability for greatness. In the legend of King Arthur, we see a humble teenage boy who became a king. Many men tried to pull the sword from the stone, and yet it was the young boy whose character would best fit the role of King. Young people have the potential to step into the leadership they were called to and we want to be a part of giving them a place and platform to step up to take their own Excalibur.
